Piton

The making of this compact cabinet begins far from the workshop—deep in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, where the raw material is found among some of the oldest and most biologically diverse ecosystems on earth. From these forests, responsibly harvested hardwoods such as Louro Freijó are selected for their strength, resilience, and uniquely expressive grain. No two boards are alike, ensuring that every finished piece carries a singular identity shaped by nature.

After careful selection, the wood is seasoned using a slow and deliberate drying process. First air-dried under shade for several weeks, it is then kiln-dried in stages, a method that protects the structure of the fibers while locking in long-term stability. Only when the wood reaches a perfect equilibrium—hard enough to endure, yet supple enough to work—is it brought into the hands of the craftspeople.

The form of the piece draws inspiration from the clean lines and subtle asymmetries of midcentury Brazilian furniture. Compact but substantial, it functions as both a cabinet and an end table—intended for versatility without compromise. The solid wood frame is joined with traditional techniques passed down through generations, reinforced without visible hardware to preserve the purity of its silhouette.

The doors, framed in recessed panels, open with a gentle push, revealing thoughtful interior storage for books, objects, or daily essentials. The proportions are intentionally low and wide, offering a grounded presence that doesn’t overwhelm the room. Gently tapered legs lift the cabinet off the floor, lending it a sculptural stance that feels light but rooted.

Finished by hand, the wood’s surface is treated with natural oils to preserve its grain, deepen its color, and allow it to age gracefully over time. The result is tactile and warm, designed to be touched, lived with, and passed down.

Handcrafted in Brazil, this cabinet is a quiet celebration of material, heritage, and purposeful design. Equally at home beside a lounge chair or standing alone as a sculptural object, it invites presence without pretense—an enduring companion for interiors shaped by story.

Wood Tauari, multiples options of veneer available

Tauari, also known as Brazilian Oak, is comparable to North American Red Oak, but 13% harder. Its colours range from off-white to medium brown, with a medium graining pattern and low luster. Tauari wood provides the highly sought after "wheat" colour associated with domestic oak. In addition to being visually appealing, this hardwood is also resistant to decay, insects, and other impacts, ensuring long lasting use of your Tauari wood product.
